Some Venezuelan citizens have rejected acting President Delcy Rodriguez’s trip to the United Nations, where she is expected to speak at the General Assembly this week and meet privately with US President Donald Trump on Tuesday.

“I completely disagree with the UN welcoming that illegitimate woman in New York,” Nuris Medina told CNN while attending a protest in Caracas this morning alongside dozens of others.

Rodriguez became acting president in early January after the US captured President Nicolas Maduro in a military operation. He is being held in New York on various charges, which he denies. Rodriguez initially criticized Maduro’s arrest but has since had various dealings with the Trump administration, including an agreement for the US to control 65 billion barrels of Venezuelan oil.

Protester Margot Monasterios said Venezuelans are “grateful” to Trump for ousting Maduro tripscan but noted that key figures from his inner circle remain in power.

“Even though we thank you for taking away the worst of them all on January 3, you left us with the 40 thieves,” she said.

Away from the protest, other citizens shared similar opinions.

I'm trying to work out whether Deep Summer or Deep Winter is closer to my coloring. I reach for dark navy more often than black. That observation isn't enough to settle it, because my photos change a lot between daylight and warm indoor light. A very bright white top can look harsh near my face. Muted berry and charcoal seem promising, but I can't tell whether that's because of their depth or their softness. I would rather compare clothes I already own than buy a new set of drapes. I came across a page about deep summer color palette while collecting examples for a side-by-side check. Would you begin with softer blue next to a clearer blue? I'm looking for a test I can repeat in the same light, not a diagnosis from one selfie. Which comparison helped you separate softness from depth? I will take each picture from the same distance. That way I can focus on the colors rather than the setting. I can ask a friend to look at the same set of photos so I don't rely entirely on my own impression. A short sequence of comparisons would be very helpful.

I am choosing a new profile photo and noticed that my face looks noticeably different across pictures taken on the same day. In a close camera shot it looks wider, while a portrait taken from farther away gives me another impression entirely. I realize lighting can affect the outline, but I would like to compare the pictures without overinterpreting one frame. I first came across discussions of skin tone analysis and that reminded me how much camera conditions can affect appearance judgments. I am now trying to look at face proportions as a separate issue. I could start with several evenly lit photos and note whether the forehead, cheekbones and jaw look consistent across them. Checking the overall outline could make the comparison easier, but I do not expect one result to settle which photo is best. Have you found that stepping back makes these comparisons more reliable? I am curious if a relaxed expression is better than a posed smile when checking the outline. I mainly want to avoid judging one distorted selfie before picking a picture to use.

Thinking back to her decision to relocate to Portugal on her own five years ago, Paula Dreyfuss jokes that many people questioned her state of mind, as she’d never even visited the European country before.

Dreyfuss loves the local food and usually eats out at least three times a week, something she simply couldn’t have afforded to do when she was based in San Diego, California, where she lived and worked as a teacher previously.

When she began teaching after working in corporate finance for years, Dreyfuss thought she’d end up with a retirement income that would provide her with a comfortable lifestyle.

But as the years went by and the cost of living increased, she realized that this was unlikely to be the case.

Dreyfuss considered moving within the United States, and recalls driving up to Seattle and “stopping at a bunch of places,” but says she couldn’t find anywhere affordable enough to tempt her away.

She’d always dreamed of traveling around Europe extensively, but Dreyfuss knew that this would likely never happen if she stayed where she was. So what better way to explore the continent than actually moving there?

After doing some research into European countries, Dreyfuss found that the only visa that she qualified for at the time was the Portugal D7 visa, which allows non-EU nationals with a stable passive income to reside in the country.

“I’d never been to Portugal. So I had no way of doing a scouting trip or anything,” she says. “I thought, ‘I’m going to go over there. And If I don’t like Portugal, then I’ll move to Spain or France.’”

While she put her plans on the back burner for a while, Dreyfuss says that the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021 ultimately prompted her to finally leave the US permanently.

“I was really ready to get away from the political situation in the United States,” she admits.
